Claw Machine

As part of my MechE Freshman Lab II class, I designed and built a tabletop arcade-style claw machine on a team with two other students (team members: Aidan Montano, Kyle Taylor). The assignment was to design a game based on an assigned country. We received Mauritania and loosely based our claw machine idea on the country’s notable mining industry. For the project, I mainly programmed an Arduino to control claw hook movement in three axes using a joystick and arcade buttons and wired the components of the system. We incorporated a pulley and cable setup for vertical claw movement and DC motor gear systems for lateral movement along linear rails. Our final design report included a game description, CAD models and drawings, code, and a cost analysis. Pictures of the construction process and the final machine, along with a video showing the game in use, are shown below.
